My long standing engagement in mentorship, capacity building, and health system transformation reflects a commitment to scientific rigor and the application of evidence to drive meaningful change.
At the University of Colorado, I co-directed several research training and career development programs, including the NIH-funded TL-1 Team Oriented Training across the Translational Sciences Spectrum (TOTTS) program at the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI). I also served as a senior mentor in the Scientist Training and Intensive Mentorship (STIM) Program in the Department of Emergency Medicine and in the Children’s Hospital Association’s health services research program. Additionally, I have mentored students, residents, and fellows across the School of Medicine and the Colorado School of Public Health.
At OCHIN, I set up a mentorship program for all research investigators, mentoring the majority myself, and implemented an academic promotions program, research governance structure, methodology-based working groups, grant-writing seminars, and other professional development programming. Through strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement, we achieved a fivefold increase in funded projects and doubled publication output, advancing the research engagement of over 2,000 federally qualified health centers and critical access hospitals.
